Red Funnel has cancelled 10 sailings on its vehicle ferry service tomorrow (Wednesday) due to yet another mechanical breakdown with Red Eagle – 1 of 3 ferries operating between East Cowes-Southampton.
Earlier this afternoon (Tuesday) it was reported that an issue with the voith unit led to the cancellation of 4 sailings – the 14:00 and 15:30 from Southampton, and the 15:30 and 17:00 from East Cowes. This has also had a knock-on effect to sailings this evening, which are set to be delayed by 45 minutes.
Now, the cross-Solent operator has confirmed that the 05:00, 08:00, 11:00, 14:00 and 17:00 sailings from Southampton have all been cancelled, alongside the 06:30, 09:30, 12:30, 15:30 and 18:30 sailings from East Cowes.
It’s presumed the voith unit issue is not easily fixable, with engineers needing more time to bring Red Eagle back into service.
Serious concerns about the future of Red Funnel and its service have been raised by Islanders, including the Isle of Wight’s 2 MPs.
