Bembridge’s All Weather Lifeboat was launched into fairly choppy seas earlier this afternoon (Wednesday) following alarming reports that 2 people were in difficulties in the vicinity of Whitecliff Bay. The alert was raised with HM Coastguard at around 12:25, prompting the launch of the lifeboat and the tasking of Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team. A search of the local area led to the discovery of an inflatable toy, which was retrieved from the water. Based on the information received, the search was called off.
