AIR PISTOL AND KNIVES FOUND IN MICRA AFTER BEMBRIDGE CRASH – ARREST MADE

A 28-year-old man from Bembridge is in custody after an air pistol and 2 knives were found in the back of his crashed car, which he is suspected to have been driving whilst drunk. Police and paramedics were called to Kings Road, Bembridge last night (Wednesday) when a blue Nissan Micra collided with a Southern Vectis bus and a grey BMW, as first reported by Island Echo. The road was closed in both directions and immediate casualty care was given to the female passenger of the Micra by Police ahead of the arrival of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. Attention then turned to the driver of the Micra, a 28-year-old from Bembridge, who was arrested on suspicion of drink driving following a roadside breath test. A search of the vehicle then uncovered an air pistol and 2 knives, leading to a further arrest on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm and possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody at Newport Police Station at this time.
