Congratulations to Culver Way, Yaverland for winning Light up the Wight 2020 and scooping £250!
2nd place – Green Lake, Shanklin (£100)
3rd place – Wellesley Way, Newport (£50)
In 2020, Light up the Wight saw a total of 26 entries with Culver Way in Yaverland scooping the top prize of £250! Quite an achievement for a first year display.
The coronavirus pandemic resulted in a bumper year for Christmas displays with the shelves empty of lights. Certainly no January sales to be had! The weather was a little disappointing in the final few days towards the big day, but more families than ever before got out in their cars to see the wonderful array of lights across the Island.
In total, more than £4,000 was donated to the displays raising money for charity on the Light up the Wight Map. This excludes Long Lane, who will announce their grand total later in 2021.
Unfortunately, Southern Vectis were unable to run their annual tour bus in 2020 but the bus operator still sponsored Light up the Wight, showing their continued support for the competition and map.
Here is a recap of all of last year’s entries. Click on each photo to enlarge. You can also watch a montage video of all 26 displays below…
