The Met Office are warning of a wet and windy start to the weekend with two yellow weather warnings in place.
A further area of heavy rain will spread eastwards across the UK throughout today and into tomorrow with 20-30 mm of rain set to fall quite widely. The heavy rain will be accompanied by strong to gale force winds.
The combination of very strong winds, large waves and high tides will lead to hazardous conditions at times in some coastal areas, including around the Island. Winds will ease from the south later on Saturday but remain strong in the north into early Sunday.
A yellow weather warning for heavy rain is in place from 08:00 this morning until 03:00 tomorrow morning.
A yellow weather warning for strong winds is in place from 06:00 Saturday until 06:00 Sunday.
UPDATE FRIDAY @ 11:30 – Due to the forecast high winds, Wightlink have changed the charter vessel that they are using on the Ryde Pier Head to Portsmouth Harbour route. As this is a larger vessel, the crossing will be longer because the vessel has to sail around the fort.
To counteract this, Wightlink have added the following additional sailings:
Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier Head: 16:40 and 18:40
Ryde Pier Head to Portsmouth Harbour: 17:25
Sandbags have been available once again by Island Roads at Well Road Car Park, East Cowes; Simeon Rec, Ryde and Cross Street Car Park, Cowes.
