Visit Isle of Wight, along with twelve industry partners, will be positioning the Island as one of the UK’s top holiday destinations at The 50+ Show at London Olympia this July, as part of its on-going marketing strategy to showcase its visitor offer and increase visitor numbers.
The 50+ Show, held between the 11th and 13 of July, is the UK’s largest exhibition for this important sector of the population. The Visit Isle of Wight team will be promoting the Island to around 20,000 visitors as well as the national travel media over the course of the three-day exhibition.
Between January and July, the team will have attended a number of UK and overseas trade shows and exhibitions. These include the Outdoor Show, Vakantiebeurs in Holland, the Best of Britain & Ireland (BOBI), The BBC Good Food & Gardeners World Show and the 50+ Show at Olympia, which will round off the 2013 season.
Liz Walker, VIOW’s Tourism Development Manager, commented:
“Exhibitions are a cost-effective way of reaching out to influential markets as well as making useful press and trade contacts and arranging meetings with current contacts in one place.
They also offer us the chance to keep up with industry developments, see what’s new and what’s more, they’re a good opportunity to keep an eye on the competition”.
David Thornton, Chief Executive of Visit Isle of Wight said:
“With the over-50s having more free time and disposable income than any other demographic, we are keen to show that the Island can offer a range of exciting experiences for those from all dispositions, from food foraging for those in search of culinary sophistication to speed-dating walks and tree-climbing for the more adventurous.”
The current exhibition partnership comprises: English Heritage, Wightlink, the Isle of Wight Council, the IW Steam Railway, Dinosaur Isle, Red Funnel, IW Pearl, Hovertravel, Seaview Wildlife Encounter, Heritage Great Britain (The Needles Park), Vectis Ventures (Blackgang Chine and Robin Hill Adventure Park & Gardens) and Robinson’s Holidays. Any tourism-related business interested in becoming part of the 2014 exhibitions programme should call Liz on 01983 201048.
