Trauma: Level 1, a new observational documentary series set on the frontline of trauma medicine, featuring the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, will return to ITV1 on Tuesday.
Produced by October Films, the two part series takes a behind the scenes look at the workings of the specialist Trauma Centre at University Hospital Southampton. With access to initial rescues by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, the series shows dramatic scenes in the operating theatre and candid interviews with the doctors on the frontline of trauma medicine as they go about their work. Episode one was transmitted back in August.
From the treatment of road crash victims to paragliders who have come crashing to earth, episode two shows how the centre’s staff prepare for a patient, operate on them – sometimes in life-threatening circumstances – and help them on their way to recovery. It also focuses on the emotional impact on the victims and their loved ones when faced with trauma.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance began operations on 1st July 2007 and every day the Air Ambulance crew provide an efficient, prompt response to road traffic collisions, serious medical conditions, sporting accidents, collapses, and many other incidents throughout Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
The program will air on ITV 1 at 22:35 on Tuesday 3rd December.
