Freshwater Independent Lifeboat was paged to assist a kayaker in difficulty after he got cut off by the tide on Saturday.
While exploring the caves in and around Freshwater Bay, the tide came in and cut the kayaker off, alongside four other people who had attempted to assist the explorer at around 16:15 on Saturday afternoon.
Freshwater’s inshore lifeboat couldn’t get close enough to the incident, therefore the decision was made to allow the lifeboat’s crew, in drysuits and with safety ropes attached, to proceed on foot via the beach to rescue the five persons.
Nobody was injured in the incident, which also saw the Needles Coastguard Rescue team, Coastguard Rescue 104 helicopter and paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service attend.
