Sophie Rolf, a beautiful, happy, larger than life little girl who, a few months before her 5th birthday, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour, continues to battle on as her parents receive a tearful prognosis following an MRI scan yesterday (Wednesday).
It was sadly revealed today by Sophie’s father, Aaron Rolf, that her tumour has doubled in size since December and is growing further up into her brain and down onto the brainstem.
Speaking on the official KissyPuppy website, Mr Rolf said:
“It looks at this stage that there is nothing more we can try on the treatment front, however I promise you all we have not given up looking.
“We are faced with the very real facts that Sophie may well have only a few short months at the most.”
Currently, children from the Isle of Wight have to travel to Naomi’s House in Winchester for respite or end of life care, which for Sophie and her family would be a three hour journey each way.
The KissyPuppy charity was set up to help raise much needed funds for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice, to go towards transforming a space into a child friendly residence that would bridge the gap whilst new long term services are developed on the Isle of Wight.
Mr Rolf continued:
“We know our little girl is a fighter and has shown us a strength that I would never have believed possible and whilst we are in her corner battling every minute of every day we are trying to come to terms with the truth that it is a battle we cannot hope to win.
“We are focusing on her birthday next week and beyond that on a daily basis making sure she wakes each day with a smile and ends it in the same manner.
“We thank you all for your continued support, kind words and sincere prayers.”
Sophie has spent the weekend at Southampton General Hospital and is currently suffering with shingles, but is back at home here on the Island.
