A local charity is set to benefit from a year’s fundraising thanks to Sainsbury’s Newport Isle of Wight customers and colleagues.
Breathe Easy has been chosen as Sainsbury’s new Local Charity partner Newport Isle of Wight for 2012/2013. The announcement comes after the store asked Island customers which local charity they should provide a year’s support to. Customers were able to vote for their favourite local charity between 9th and 23rd May.
The partnership officially launched on 13th June 2012 and customers can now choose to make a donation in-store to Breathe Easy who are situated in the Respiratory Dept at St. Mary’s Hospital, Newport Isle of Wight. The charity was founded back in 2000 and helps support anyone that has a lung condition. Over the next 12 months, the charity will benefit from Sainsbury’s Local Charity partner scheme, now in it’s fourth year.
Last year, the initiative supported over 1000 charities and organisations across the UK through fundraising and volunteering and gave more than £1.5 million of support to local communities. Sainsbury’s Newport Isle of Wight Local Charity partner last year was IW Branch National Autistic Society and thanks to customers and colleagues, they raised £2,454.67 for the charity, who will be putting the donation towards ongoing clubs and supporting events for children and families with Autisum
During the next 12 months, colleagues will be providing fundraising support for IW Branch and raising awareness of the charity with the local community. Sainsbury’s Newport Isle of Wight Store Manager Paul Dyer said: “Breathe Easy is such a worthy local cause and we’re pleased and proud to be supporting it over the next 12 months. We’ll be letting our customers know of our fundraising plans in-store and we hope they can join our colleagues in helping support them”.
Andrew Savage of Breathe Easy said: “I’d like to thank everyone at Sainsbury’s Newport Isle of Wight who’s nominated us to be the store’s new Local Charity partner. I hope this partnership will raise awareness to Island residents about the work we do and the impact it has in the community. We now look forward to a successful year working with the store’s colleagues on this exciting initiative”.
