Ryde Castle has won the top award at the recent Isle of Wight Society Awards.
The hotel opened in November 2013 following an 18-month project to restore the historic building after it suffered a devastating fire. The restoration project was recognised with the top award at the event, the Isle of Wight Society Conservation Award for 2013.
The team behind the project was presented with a plaque by HM Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Major General Martin White, which will now be displayed at the hotel.
Peter Hebblethwaite is business unit director for Old English Inns, owners of the hotel. He said:
“Throughout the entirety of the project to restore Ryde Castle we were mindful to do justice to the heritage and character of the original building. This award means a great deal to everyone who worked hard to be true to that aim and we are all very proud to have received it.
“Since Ryde Castle opened we have had an overwhelmingly positive response from our customers and it is the icing on the cake to receive recognition from the Isle of Wight Society.”
