Four weeks of road works on the outskirts of Newport are likely to cause major traffic disruption.
Both Staplers Road and Fairlee Road – the two main roads between Ryde and Newport – will be closed in one direction from 24th February until the 22nd March for continuing gas main replacements, which have blighted Staplers Road over the last couple of weeks.
Motorists will only be able to enter Newport from Ryde via Staplers Road (incoming) and will only be able to exit Newport to Ryde via Fairlee Road (outgoing).
In order to minimise any traffic disruption, Halberry Lane and Cross Lane will be one-direction from Fairlee Road towards Staplers Road.
Disruption is likely to effect a number of bus routes including the 5, 9, 23, 25 and 39, passengers are warned. Southern Vectis’ Route 9 will divert to Fairlee Road then use Halberry Lane to continue on it’s normal Staplers route.
