The Isle of Wight’s PFI provider, Island Roads has today started an 8-day major road survey to find out more about how road users travel across the Island’s road network, particularly into Newport town.
To ensure road safety is kept while drivers are asked to pull over at the roadside, Nationwide Data Collection has recruited the services of Hampshire Constabulary.
Motorists are advised that short delays may be possible on major routes into the town.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary today said: “Whilst officers have a legal duty to deal with any offences that arise from vehicles or occupants being asked to take part in the survey, the police are not using the operation as a tactic to stop motorists randomly for criminal checks.”
