Bouldnor Road in Yarmouth has officially reopened this afternoon (Friday) following the successful completion of the first major geotechnical works for Island Roads.
A seven-week closure has been in operation causing disruption in the local area, however the work has been completed on time and the road was reopened after a small ribbon cutting ceremony, with one local resident taking his classic car for a spin to test out the new road surface (featured photograph thanks to Colin Mccrae).
The ribbon was cut Cllr Jon Gilbey alongside Kieron Blamey, Island Roads Geotechnical Project Manager (left); Cllr Stuart Hutchinson and Will Orr, Island Roads Graduate Engineer (right).
Although the work has been controversial with some residents of Yarmouth and the surrounding area, the work carried out by Island Roads has secured the future of the vital route between Newport and Yarmouth for many years to come, whilst providing a brand new road surface and other improvements in the area.
Other geotechnical schemes to be undertaken over the next 24 months includes work on the access road to The Duver in St Helens. Work at The Undercliff in Niton was suspended earlier this year following a landslip.
