Refurbishment work has this week got underway at Osborne House as a £1.5million investment is made to secure the future of the popular Swiss Cottage.
Closed for the next seven months, the delightful Swiss Cottage within the grounds of Osborne will undergo a series of alterations which will see a new exhibition space incorporated into the building.
Once used as a playhouse for Queen Victoria’s children, the cottage’s gardens will once again play host to laughter from the little ones with a play fort set to be built close to the barracks area.
The existing café within the cottage itself will relocate to Gazelle House, once used to house the Royal pets.
This investment has only been made possible by a Heritage Lottery fund allocation and will be one of just many recent changes to the historic house under the direction of General Manager, Rob Fowler (pictured).
The Swiss Cottage will reopen in April 2014.
