Red Funnel has suspended both it’s hi-speed Red Jet service and it’s vehicle ferry service this morning (Monday).

Reduced visibility has resulted in the decision being taken to halt all crossings between the Isle of Wight and Southampton.

When fog results in low visibility, Red Funnel’s vessels are unable to enter or transit through Cowes Harbour. It comes after 2 previous incidents in foggy conditions, 1 of which led to the car ferry running aground.

Red Osprey and Red Eagle are currently holding outside of the harbour to the north of Egypt Point, whilst Red Kestrel remains docked in Southampton.

It’s unknown when services from East Cowes and Cowes will resume.

The Cross-Solent operator apologies for any inconvenience caused.

UPDATE @ 08:30 – Red Funnel advises that an update is due at 09:00 this morning.

Meanwhile, Hovertravel has confirmed that they have also had to suspend their services. An update on alternative travel arrangements is due 08:45.
