UPDATED: RED EAGLE TROUBLES CAUSE SATURDAY CROSS-SOLENT TRAVEL DISRUPTION

Red Funnel has cancelled at least 4 of its vehicle ferry crossings today (Saturday) due to a technical issue with Red Eagle’s propulsion system.

Earlier on today the cross-Solent operator cancelled the 16:00 sailing from Southampton and the 17:30 from East Cowes due to what is described as an issue with the Aft Voith unit.

Now, the 19:00 from Southampton has also been pulled alongside the 20:30 from East Cowes.

Don’t worry Red Funnel Management.. no inconvenience at all, as this is normal Red Funnel service these days.. totally unreliable and zero interest to improve .

You cannot run a reliable service sucking all the money out of the company while neglecting the basic maintenance of the vessels. Let us see wether our MP keeps up his recent crusade on our ferries if re-elected. I very much doubt it ! I am not a fan of nationalisation but something fairly drastic needs doing because the ferry companies are killing the Island.

That’s what you get when the cretinous, greedy accountants in charge don’t believe in maintenance.

Between thw Redjets and the car ferries, Red Funnel seem to be going down the pan. They charge enough, perhaps they need to plough a bit more back into investment in their vessels

“…..apologises for any inconvenience…”
So it’s quite possible that somone buying ferry tickets to get somewhere they need to be, will just think ‘Fine, never mind’?

How about WL manning up and apologising for THE inconvenience they have caused? There’s a thought.

Er……. If the crew of the car ferry was stood down – why weren’t some of them transferred to the jet? Surely they could be trained for both – it would be cheaper to do that than close the service down and lose custom, perhaps permanently
