Police are this week appealing for witnesses to come forward after stereo equipment and car parts were stolen from a vehicle in Newport.
A stereo, speakers, wing mirrors and light clusters were all nicked from a silver Citroen Saxo parked in Nelson Road, Newport between 23:30 on Saturday and 13:00 on Sunday afternoon. The owner of the vehicle, a 19-year-old male, had locked his hatchback car but upon returning the following day, he found it had been broken into.
Investigating Officer, PC Tom Wyld of West Wight TPT, said:
“The victim’s vehicle was parked in a residential street and along with the stereo and speakers both the rear light clusters and wing mirrors had been removed. It would have taken someone quite a while to dismantle these items as they were wired in.
“I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or who may have information about who was responsible to get in touch.
“Please remember when leaving your car, close all windows and lock it up. If you can when parking at home use your garage or park in a well-lit area. Don’t leave anything on display in your vehicle and take all your personal possessions with you. Fit an alarm or immobiliser to your car.”
Anyone with information can contact PC Wyld at Newport Police Station by phoning 101. Information can be given anonymously by phoning the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
