From Monday some of Hampshire Constabulary’s front office opening times will change to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the service.
There will continue to be 16 police stations across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight offering a front office service; however the stations offering the service and the opening times may change to reflect the times that a review found they were used, or needed, most.
It follows the closure of Ryde Police Station earlier this month.
On the Island, Newport Police Station will be open from Monday to Saturday between 09:00 and 18:00 and Sunday between 09:30 and 18:00. Bank Holidays the front office is open between 10:00 and 18:00 and is closed from 14:00 until 15:00 each day.
In addition to visiting a police station, members of the public can contact the police by phoning 101, from the comfort of their own home. 101 is for all non-emergency police matters such as reporting a crime, obtaining advice and information, or finding out about beat surgeries or other police events in their area. Additionally residents can phone 101 to arrange a visit by an officer at a mutually convenient time and place.
101 is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and calls from landlines or mobile networks cost 15 pence per call, no matter what time of day or how long you are on the phone.
The changes to the front office opening times will have no impact on the service provision by local Safer Neighbourhoods Teams (SNTs). SNT officers will remain based at the heart of the communities they serve and will continue to be available at beat surgeries and community meetings.
To find out how to contact their local Safer Neighbourhoods team, residents can either phone 101 or type in their post code on www.hampshire.police.uk or www.police.uk.
