PAN LEFT ON HOB LEADS TO SHANKLIN CALL OUT FOR 3 FIRE CREWS

A pan left on the hob sparked a call out to a residential property in Shanklin for firefighters this morning (Wednesday).

3 appliances from Ryde, Ventnor and St Mary’s (Southampton) responded to the address on Carter Avenue, at the junction with Brook Road, at around 11:30, following reports of a kitchen fire.

It was discovered by the first crew on scene – Ryde – that the fire was already out, a spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed.

The pan was removed from the building before firefighters conducted a home fire safety visit.

Crews stood down at just gone midday.

Why was the appliance from Ryde 1st there, and why an appliance from Southampton. Shanklin fire station is about 500 yards away, or has something happened to that, that I am not aware of?

I’d also be interested to know. As a retained fireman in Ventnor during the 1980s, I find it incredible that we can’t even deal with our own incidents today, without mainland “help”. Truly shocking.

As the incident took less than thirty minutes Wonder if the Southampton Fire Appliance managed to make it to the Ferry Port

I take it that The island was low on manpower so a crew from Southampton was on standby in Newport?

A fire engine from Southampton??!! For a hob pan fire??!! Surely not. Is there something missing from this report – is the St Mary’s engine already over here for some reason? All rather bizarre.

Three fire appliances for a pan fire.
Unions love this …send appliances demand more full time fireman.
The house holder or friend who removed the pan should think for a few milli seconds do we warrant a 999 call.
