The Island’s first 99p stores has opened its doors to the public this morning (Saturday).
The discount chain, which has over 200 stores nationwide, has taken over the former HMV premises in Newport High Street, as exclusively revealed by Island Echo last week.
Crowds of people descended on the shop within minutes of the opening with a great first impression being felt by shoppers. A variety of top named brands sit alongside cheaper versions on the shelves giving a wide variety of products – the company say twice the range.
Nearby Poundland, which has been established in Newport for a number of years, have felt the pinch this morning with unusually low levels of customers in store.
