ISLAND Police are continuing to investigate an allegation of assault in Newport.
Two men approached a dark green 4×4 car parked in traffic in Drill Hall Road at around 17:30 on Tuesday 26th June.
It’s alleged one of the men opened the driver’s door and assaulted the motorist at the wheel of the 4×4, a 41-year-old man from Ryde. The driver received minor injuries to his face.
There is also an allegation that the second man was carrying a baseball bat and damaged a window of the car.
All three men are believed to have been involved in a loud argument, which would have been noticed by other members of the public at a busy time of the day.
A 28-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of assault. A 26-year-old man also from Newport was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.
Both men were bailed until 10th July pending further enquiries.
