Sam and Donna Shaw, owners of The Fighting Cocks in Arreton, have announced their acquisition of The Chequers Inn, Rookley.
The pub is set to officially change hands tomorrow (Thursday), bringing about the end of an era for Sue and Richard Holmes who have run the pub for the past 27 years.
Sam Shaw, Director of The Fighting Cocks, said:
“We are thrilled to have acquired another prestigious pub. Sue and Richard Holmes have established The Chequers as a truly fantastic venue and this acquisition provides the coming together of two like-minded businesses.
“As a business, The Fighting Cocks has a strong commitment to providing quality, fresh food using local produce as much as possible. Having The Chequers as a sister pub expands our offering to customers, combining great food and excellent service in a family friendly environment.”
Donna Shaw, Co-Director stated:
“For the last year running our own pub has been hugely rewarding and a great deal of fun. We are delighted that in The Chequers, we have found an ambitious, family run pub that shares our commitment to quality and service and we look forward to taking it on to the next level”.
Richard, Sue, Mark and Sarah Holmes have wished Sam and Donna all the best for the future at the Chequers Inn. Richard has said:
“We are delighted to have found a couple that will build and look after what we have created over the last 27 years. In Sam and Donna we have found a couple similar to ourselves which hold the local community very close to their hearts. We are sure that they are the right people to hand over the Chequers for the future.
“We all live near by so will continue to use the Chequers as our ‘local’ and wait with excitement to see the next stage in its long history!”
The Shaw’s officially take over the pub tomorrow (Thursday), with the message being that it is business as usual.
