Representatives of the Solent & Isle of Wight Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) Group recently met with Isle of Wight MPs Joe Robertson (East) and Richard Quigley (West), with both Members of Parliament expressing their support for the campaign.
WASPI explained to Joe and Richard about the impact unfairly implemented increases to the State Pension age have had on their 1950s-born women constituents.
Solent WASPI’s Coordinator, Shelagh Simmons, said:
“After more than 9 years’ campaigning, during which nationally more than 293,000 WASPI women have died, the Ombudsman has placed this in Parliament’s hands. We thank Joe Robertson and Richard Quigley for their support. We urge them as Parliamentarians to do everything they can to bring about the fair compensation that justice demands. Our message to the Government is – please just get on with it.”
“We were also seeking their commitment to fair compensation following the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman’s report which was issued in March this year. The report was clear that the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) was guilty of Maladministration and that compensation should be paid.”
Richard Quigley assured them:
“I continue to support WASPI women and will do what I can to encourage the Government to find a speedy, acceptable solution.”
Joe Robertson told the group:
“I am supportive of the campaign and urge the Government to make a speedy decision. Delay is causing undue hardship.”
Solent WASPI welcomes the MPs’ commitment to a fair, speedy remedy.
