A fleet of more environmentally-friendly buses is to be introduced on the Isle of Wight tomorrow (Friday).
Ten of the UK-built Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 buses, each costing £180,000, are to be unveiled by Southern Vectis tomorrow. The buses are very similar to the Vectis Blue buses introduced for school routes earlier this year.
The new green-liveried buses join the company’s existing fleet of 59 buses and will mainly operate on the Number 9 route between Newport and Ryde.
The double-deckers have more environmentally-friendly engines, low-floor access, CCTV, digital destination displays and storage for wheelchairs and baby buggies, the company said.
Ed Wills, Go Ahead Group bus and coach operations director in the south, said the buses would offer more comfort to customers whilst reducing emissions on Island roads.
“The investment is proof of our ongoing commitment to the offer of a reliable, safe and quality bus service for Islanders,” said Mr Wills.
One of the new buses will be on display in St James’ Square, Newport, on Friday.
