Bestival organiser & BBC Radio One DJ Rob da Bank has announced details of his annual quest to uncover the freshest talent on the Isle of Wight, the 2014 Bestival Island Band, DJ, Choir & Spoken Word Competition.
Once again, the prize on offer to the eventual winners in each of the four categories in the Competition is a coveted, once in a lifetime opportunity to grab a slot on one of the stages at the Island’s biggest summer event, Rob’s multi award-winning Bestival spectacular, sharing the bill with the likes of headline acts Outkast, Foals, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, Beck and DJ Sven Vath.
2014 Bestival Island Band, DJ, Choir & Spoken Word Competition prize-winners will take to the following stages at Bestival this September:
- Winning Band – slot on Main Stage
- Winning DJ – slot in Hidden Disco
- Winning Choir – slot in Big Top
- Winning Spoken Word Artiste – slot in Amphitheatre
Speaking yesterday, Rob said:
“I am still slightly flabbergasted at the crazy amount of young Island talent that I see on a regular basis via my monthly Music Club at Quay Arts. All of the competition winners shone brightly at Bestival last year when they stepped up the very biggest of stages and I am totally confident that this year’s winners will do me and the Bestival team proud yet again. Bring on the mp3s!”
After judging all entries received by the closing date of 00:01 hrs on Monday 1st May, Rob’s chosen finalists in each of the four categories will be announced right here on Island Echo and his shortlisted favourite 3 x Island Bands, 3 x DJs, 3 x Choirs plus 3 x Spoken Word artistes will all then play-off in front of Rob himself plus a panel of celebrity judges, including Level 42’s Mark King, in the 2014 Grand Final, which will take place again this year at Northwood House, Cowes on Thursday 5th June between 07:00-23:30, with all competing for the much coveted prize of being crowned 2014 Bestival Island Band, DJ, Choir & Spoken-Word Competition champs!
