Emergency services are responding to a possible fire on board a boat to the north of Cowes this afternoon (Saturday).
Cowes RNLI was tasked to launch by Solent Coastguard at around 12:40 following a distress call reporting a fire onboard a vessel at sea.
Volunteers swiftly launched the Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat and made best speed to the casualty vessel, which has now been towed to Trinity Landing, Cowes.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is on scene at The Parade to ensure the fire has been fully extinguished.
Coastguard Rescue officers are also on hand, alongside the Harbour Master.
UPDATE @ 15:00 – It has been confirmed that the fire onboard the 31ft motor cruiser was out upon arrival of the RNLI, with firefighters from Cowes verifying the matter.
The boat was on its way to a mainland destination following refurbishment work at a River Medina boat-yard, and was accompanied by a RIB helmed by the man’s son.
Coastguard officers from Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team and Needles Coastguard Rescue Team responded to the incident, but have since stood down.
The vessel has been towed away from Trinity Landing by the harbour master.
