Motorists are shockingly continuing to ignore the road closure currently in place at Morton Common between Sandown and Brading.
A 4×4 driver has this evening (Sunday) forced their way through water-filled barriers at the closure and has driven around other barriers and signs in place causing criminal damage.
HSS Hire Isle of Wight have inspected the scene and it has been discovered that the red and white barriers have been damaged and ruptured, leaking water all over the carriageway – A forced attempt to avoid a short diversion via Yaverland and Culver Parade.
The hard closure has been put in place at the request of Hampshire Constabulary and will only be removed once it is deemed safe to do so. The road is still at risk of flooding and remains closed tonight.
Due to the length of time it will take operatives to refill these barriers, Westridge Cross temporary traffic lights – operated by HSS Hire – will not be manually controlled tomorrow morning (Monday) and therefore delays in the area are possible.
UPDATE MONDAY @ 09:05 – Morton Common is being re-opened this morning.
