MIDNIGHT TOW TO CHICHESTER FOR 37FT YACHT

bembridge400Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat was tasked to launch at around 22:00 last night to assist a 37ft yacht that had become stranded near to Dunnose Head, Luccombe.

It was reported to the National Maritime Operations Centre that the yacht had 3 crew on board and that a fishing net or lobster pot had become wrapped around the boat’s prop around half a mile off the coast.

Following an immediate launch, the yacht was located by the lifeboat at about 22:30 and freed by the volunteer crew using a grapple. However, as there was still some rope around the prop it was decided to set up a tow to the entrance of Chichester Harbour, where the yacht was transferred to the Hayling Island ILB at 01:00.
