Members of a Cowes masonic lodge have handed a huge cash boost to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice (EMH).
John Herbert of Medina Freemasons Lodge no 35 attended a tour of EMH John Cheverton Centre last Wednesday to present a cheque for £3,020 with his wife, Barbara, to the hospice.
The amount was raised over a year by all members with the support of their family and friends through social activities including Sunday lunches, a quiz evening, line dancing, a 1960’s theme evening, a Christmas party, a ladies charity evening and regular ladies’ yoga.
After meeting some of the clinical team and senior management and presenting their cheque, Becky McGregor, Clinical Centre Manager, offered a tour of services offered to patients, their families and carers in Earl Mountbatten Hospice’s John Cheverton Centre (JCC). Both Barbara and John said they were surprised at how bright and positive the hospice was and urged others to take one of the tours that are offered by the EMH.
Becky McGregor said:
“It is because of individuals like Barbara and John with the support of members of groups such as the Freemasons that vital funds are raised to ensure we continue to provide the care we do to patients on the Island. It is a pleasure to have the chance to meet them in person to say thank you and to show them the wonderful services the funds will go towards.”
John said:
“We have a wonderful team of volunteers, both members and their wives, who work tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of these events, but the success of these occasions is due entirely to the support and generosity of friends and members of other Freemasons Lodges on the Island.”
Anyone who is interested in a tour of EMH John Cheverton Centre is welcome to get in touch to make arrangements, or to pop into the shop or Café which are open to the community daily from Monday – Friday, 10:00 – 16:00 with Saturday opening coming soon.
