EXCLUSIVE: A man believed to be in his 40’s had a lucky escape yesterday (Saturday) after losing control of his vehicle, ploughing through a fence and coming to rest in a hedge.
The incident happened at around 15:50 on the A3020 Blackwater Hallow between Rookley and Blackwater, near to Highwood Lane.
It is understood the male driver of a Maroon Vauxhall Corsa (B) lost control of his vehicle on a notorious bend, just 100ft away from the annual Rookley Village Summer Show taking place yesterday. Witnesses have described how several members of the public could have been seriously injured or killed if the car had careered off the road seconds earlier.
The driver attempted to make off from the scene on foot and proceeded to walk along Highwood Lane, away from the scene of the collision but he was shortly after met by Police. He was staggering along the road.
Paramedics from St John’s Ambulance, who were nearby, attended to the man and assessed him for any injuries.
