PICTURE GALLERY: The carnival season continued last night (Wednesday) with the return of Newport’s Illuminated Carnival, which lite up the streets of the Island’s county town on a mild summer’s night.
The celebration atmosphere could be felt throughout Newport as the carnival extravaganza set off from Matalan, ending at Quay Street with thousands of spectators gathered for the event, which featured the Island’s carnival queens and an array of steam engines promoting the Island Steam Show at Havenstreet.
The procession was led by Newport Fire Station’s aerial appliance and an American fire engine, with a medley of marching bands.
The carnival circus moves on to St Helens on Bank Holiday Monday, moving off at 18:15.
