Hundreds of people made their way to Yaverland near Sandown today (Sunday) for the inaugural Aqua Adrenaline event, which has been a great success and a vital stepping stone to the event returning in 2015.
New on the Island’s event calender, Aqua Adrenaline allowed members of the public to try a variety of new sports both in and out of the water, explore the work of vital charities such as WightSAR and the Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat and enjoy a family day out at the beach with demonstrations from powerboats and zapcats.
As the sun peaked out from behind the clouds, an up-close demonstration got underway with the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter from Lee-on-Solent and the local independent lifeboat from Sandown. Crowds gathered on the shoreline to watch an impressive display of skill as crewman was winched up and down from the moving lifeboat, demonstrating some of what the rescue teams do throughout the year.
It is hoped for 2015 the event and build to include powerboat racing and expand on the success of 2014.
