Southern Vectis’ Darrell Hadland is celebrating after being named among the best bus drivers in the country.
Making the top 25 in the national Bus Driver of the Year Awards 2014, Darrell was placed higher than any other Go Ahead driver in the whole of the south west.
Bus drivers from operators across the nation were eligible for the top accolade. Judges based their decision on a range of criteria – including drivers’ professionalism at work and stand-out skills during test manoeuvres.
Southern Vectis managing director, Andrew Wickham said:
“We are justifiably proud of our drivers across Southern Vectis – but those named in these annual awards have to be something very special.
“I’m delighted for Darrell. To be placed among the best bus drivers in the country – and higher up the list than anyone from Go Ahead in the south west is an amazing achievement.
“It’s a reflection, not only of the quality of his driving – but of the excellent service he provides to passengers across the Island. I look forward to seeing that continue over the coming year.”
Darrell arrived from London to work with Southern Vectis in 2001. After growing up in the capital, he moved to the Isle of Wight with his family for a better quality of life.
He recently joined the Institute of Advanced Motorists, and is well known for taking a pride in his safe and considerate driving.
“I’m pleased to have placed so highly in these prestigious awards. It’s great to be given some recognition when you work hard to do a good job – and I’m proud to have done well on behalf of Southern Vectis against drivers from the many other operators taking part.”
