Briddlesford Daisys Alfred, known as Alfred, and 6 pedigree Guernsey heifers have been exported from the Isle of Wight to a farm in Holland.
The Dutch farmer, who milks with robots, is founding what is believed to be the first Guernsey herd in Holland. He wants to add quality, colour and taste, for which Guernsey milk is renowned, to his ice cream.
12 month old Alfred is the son of Briddlesford’s oldest cow, Briddlesford Gregs Daisy, who has now had 11 calves.
The heifers join a group of 24 from other Guernsey herds in the UK. 4 of Briddlesford’s heifers have been sired by a Canadian bull, and 2 by a bull from Guernsey Island, Jaonnets Caras Conqueror. They are all due to calve from May 2014.
All have been tested positive for the A2 A2 milk protein, which is known to give their milk extra health benefits, and is prevalent in Guernsey cows.
