UPDATED: A civil investigation has been launched by Island Roads this week after a number of scrap vehicles were discovered at the side of the road on Stag Lane near Newport.
A total of 16 cars were left outside the Cliftongrade scrap yard on Sunday morning resulting in complaints being lodged and an investigation being launched into where the cars came from and why they have been left outside of the scrapyard compound.
Island Echo have investigated the story further to reveal an ongoing ownership debate.
Inquiries have revealed that all 16 vehicles were stored on private land in East Cowes for a period of time as complete cars however, due to a feud between a landlord and sub-letter, the vehicles were dismantled without permission after the rightful owner of the vehicles refused to pay a £1600 fee to take the vehicles off of the property to another location, imposed by the landlord.
Coming to an agreement, it is understood the owner was able to remove the now-dismantled vehicles and was left with no choice but to take them to be scrapped. Authorized scrapyard Cliftongrade have refused to accept the vehicles with question marks being placed over the legal ownership of the scrap lot.
Ownership is being claimed by the landlord of land in which the vehicles were kept in East Cowes, despite them belonging to the sub-letter. Until proof of ownership is given, Cliftongrade refuse to process the vehicles.
It is understood the vehicles will be removed by Island Roads later today.
UPDATE @ 16:55 – The vehicles have been removed from the roadside and will now be scrapped by Cliftongrade after the ownership dispute was resolved.
