hamsterwheel3More than £4000 has been raised by a group of 20 incredible firefighters after taking it in turns to run a grand total of 459,700 metres in a giant human hamster wheel.

Western Gardens in Ryde was the location for a 48-hour challenge this weekend as firefighters took on the task of raising funds for the 100 Here 100 There fundraiser, on behalf of the Wessex Cancer Trust and The Firefighter’s Charity.

hamsterwheel£4,270 was raised in total from public donations as spectators enjoyed the fun and informative event, which continued day and night starting at 15:00 on Friday.

Children were joined by a Fireman Sam character and could explore the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Services’ pumping appliances on display.
