UPDATED: Former Isle of Wight Councillor and serving Newport Parish Councillor – until last night, David Whittaker, has been found guilty of several sex offences against children including sexual activity with a child.
Mr Whittaker, 73, was found guilty at the Isle of Wight Crown Court yesterday (Friday) after a re-trail. Whittaker was found guilty of sexual activity with a child, two charges of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of children, as well as sexual assault on a child and causing a child under the age of 16 to watch a sexual act.
Following the guilty verdict delivered in court, Whittaker stepped down from his position on the Newport Parish Council last night.
The jury failed to reach a verdict back in December, resulting in the re-trail this week.
Whittaker denies the charges against him.
UPDATED FRIDAY: David Whittaker, 73, has been sentenced to six years in prison for child sex offences today.
Three years ago, David Whittaker was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity in a public toilet.
