A total of 5 ex-Armed Forces personnel and one serving Royal Navy seaman shall be walking around the coastline of the Isle of Wight this weekend having set off from Hovertravel in Ryde this evening (Friday) in the hope of raising as much money as possible for the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity.
Wearing Combat trousers, boots and carrying all of their provisions, the team will complete the 120km challenge with no support group and shall also be sleeping under the stars by the old fashioned method of ponchos for two nights.
Following the rejection by Wightlink to provide free ferry travel for the group, Hovertravel kindly offered to transport the fundraisers across the Solent free of charge to begin their fundraising efforts.
The weekend-long walk began at 19:00 tonight departing from ‘The Royal’ public house on Commercial Road in Portsmouth and will end at around 14:00 on Sunday. For the return journey from the hovercraft terminal in Southsea back to The Royal, it is anticipated that the group shall be accompanied by the Trafalgar Drummers.
The team of 6 are stopping at East Cowes tonight before putting in a big lush to reach Sandown Bay by tomorrow night.
