A Dutch nuclear submarine paid a visit to The Solent on Wednesday morning.
The 67-metre long Walrus (2) submarine surfaced just off of Gurnard near Cowes, much to the surprise of on-lookers.
The vessel, which can stay underwater for months at a time, is designed to tackle anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare, carrying out surveillance, special operations, and the laying of mines for the Dutch Navy.
Thanks to Andrew Barton of The Watersedge Café in Gurnard for capturing this amazing photograph of the intimidating sub heading East towards Southampton.
Andrew told Island Echo that it is only the second submarine he has seen in 10 years.
