THE Duke of Gloucester will visit the Island next week to tour a Royal Arcade and present two organisations with the Queen’s Award  for Voluntary Service.

Prince Richard, 21st in line to the throne, will tour the Royal Victoria Arcade in Union Street, Ryde and meet those behind a restoration project recently carried out, as well as visiting the arcade’s cellar to visit the Ryde District Heritage Centre.

Later in the day, Friends of Shanklin Theatre and the Isle of Wight Steam Railway will be presented with the Queen’s Awards for Voluntary Service at Osborne House, the former Royal residence of Queen Victoria. The Duke of Gloucester, the Queen’s cousin, will also visit the beach at Osborne Bay.

Lord Lieutenant for the Isle of Wight, Maj Gen Martin White, said: “I am looking forward to welcoming the Duke of Gloucester to the Island and showing him some outstanding examples of community work something for which the people of the Island should be very proud”.
