UPDATED: DRIVER FLEES SCENE OF HIGH IMPACT HIT AND RUN SMASH IN RYDE

Img 1403Police are currently searching for the driver of a Honda Civic following a hit and run crash in Ryde, which has seen a parked car destroyed and debris left strewn across the carriageway.

Great Preston Road has been closed in both directions as a result of the smash, which happened just before 20:30.

A silver Honda Civic – travelling towards St John’s Hill – has collided with a parked Audi A5 with considerable force, shunting the vehicle forward onto the pavement and into a fence.

The front wheel of the uninsured, untaxed Civic has been ripped off in the collision and launched like a projectile through a fence and into a front garden.

Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have deployed a dog unit in a bid to track down the driver of the Honda, who witnesses say fled the scene on foot in the direction of Rosemary Lane.

Thankfully, no one has been injured but both vehicles are write-offs.

UPDATE @ 21:45 – The search for the driver has proven fruitless, but investigations continue.

Island Echo understands the driver to be a known local, who is disqualified from driving.

Motorists have reported seeing the vehicle driving erratically on Ashey Road around 15 minutes before the crash, with further witnesses reporting seeing the vehicle cutting across the forecourt of Westridge Garage having just refuelled at Tesco Petrol Station – just seconds before the impact.

Recovery of the vehicles has been arranged.

Great Preston Road in Ryde is a very dangerous road due to vehicles
constantly speeding 24/7

Mr Jordan done a great job having Double Yellow Lines installed along
Great Preston Road that has made it much safer with Vehicles now only parking on
1 side of the road, rather than parking on both sides of the road.

The Road is now in desperate need of speed humps
and speed Camera’s.

Mr Jordan please do something about it before someone gets
seriously injured or killed.

Many of the residents along Great Preston Road drive vehicles for
months with NO MOT
How do they get away with it. I thought Tesco had Anpr

A builders van was driving around for over 7 months with

I have highlighted the dangers of this road when walking my dog,
hence much needed double yellow lines being placed.

The Road now requires traffic calming measures or speed humps.

The dangerous part of Great Preston Road is where the
old Council houses are on the bend.

Hopefully Cllr Jordan can use his powers to get these
speed humps put in place by Island Roads.

A vehicle that fails an mot isn’t necessarily unsafe. Your not allowed to drive an unsafe car on the roads, even if it does have an mot.

You believe that? Naive old chap. Plenty of motors were uninsured with no tax and mot back in the noughties, driving around the island, while Labour wasted billions on tax credit fraud. This failed its mot in April of this year. So it’s been on the road a month with no mot.

If ONLY that builder and his disabled daughter had been allowed to half park on the pavement, this likely would not have occurred as they helped slow down the speeding traffic.

But the whingers knew best..NOT, and their ”yellow lines’ have done as I said, just made the traffic flow more rapid.

Be careful fools what you wish for in the future.

I objected to the double yellow lines for that very reason. Free flowing traffic would allow for higher speeds – exactly what has happened on a very regular basis 50 mph +

Vehicles should not be parked on both sides of such roads, unless
the road is made a one way road.

If traffic cannot flow freely accidents can happen.

Permit parking is a good idea islandwide, that would free the
Roads of many vehicles that are not being used or are dumped on
Roads with no mot.

There is an old Double Glazing van parked along
Monkton Street in Ryde, it’s been there for months

Get such Vehicles off the road, free up our roads.

It is a nightmare trying to park along Monkton Street

Not sure why driver ran away, could have just sat and had a fag. Police would not have done anything, not allow to arrest people anymore. Welcome to tory Britain, where you can drive for years with no licence, insurance or MOT and if the police stop you they still can’t you.

Sadly thesedays there seems to be no law and order.
I can remember the days when Police would walk the beat and at times
check vehicle registration numbers to see if they had tax and mot

There have been many Vans and Cars parked along Great Preston Road with
no mot’s and they were being used daily by the owners.

My Father did contact DVLA, Island Roads and The District steward for
Ryde, and they did nothing about it.

No one cares, unless a person sadly gets killed the roads will
continue to be dangerous.

What Great Preston Road needs is speed humps

Place 1 on the bend near Preston Close and 1 before Nicholson Road

Job done, it’s not rocket science, that will slow
speeding motorists down.

Have you seen the rubbish walking around Ryde lately ?. Probably including this council imported problem resident.
