UPDATED: Two cross-Solent operators are experiencing further problems today (Thursday) which has resulted in significant disruption to those trying to travel both to and from the mainland.
Following an incident yesterday morning which resulted in one of Hovertravel’s crafts turning back to Ryde shortly after leaving the pad, the company have today said they will be running a one craft service until further notice.
Yesterday evening one of the aging vessels broke down during the middle of a crossing from Southsea, limping back to Ryde with a suspected broken lift engine – the same problem which hit the 08:00 crossing earlier in the day. It is believed this breakdown has resulted in the one-craft service coming into operation.
Hovertravel crossings will depart Ryde at XX:15 and XX:45 and Southsea at XX:00 and XX:30.
UPDATE @ 08:34 – Hovertravel have resumed a two-craft service operating to a normal timetable.
Meanwhile over the other side of the Island, troubled Wightlink have once again cancelled a series of sailings on their Yarmouth to Lymington car ferry service.
The following crossings have been cancelled today:
From Lymington: 10:20, 13:20 and 16:20
From Yarmouth: 11:40, 14:40 and 17:40
Technical issues have been mentioned as the reason behind the cancellations, which were also in place Sunday, Monday and yesterday.
Red Funnel are operating to timetable.
