With its engine broken down and unable to make progress in a strong tide because of lack of wind, the Emerald Star sought assistance through HM Coastguard.
Cowes RNLI lifeboat quickly responded to the call for help, launching at 20:50 before successfully locating the yacht drifting in the vicinity of South Bramble Buoy.
The Emerald Star, based in Gosport and with five people aboard, was towed into Cowes Yacht Haven.
The lifeboat returned to station at 21:45.
