policetapeTwo conmen have targeted a West Wight pensioner by trying to sell over-priced goods just days before Christmas.

Police are making an appeal for information this week following the incident on Friday 20th December when a 75-year-old man from Freshwater was approached by two men and was offered over-priced items for sale at his home address in Whitmore Court, close to Green Road, at around 12:10.

Hampshire Constabulary have released descriptions of the two men.

The first suspect is described as a white male, aged in his 30s, around 5ft 10ins tall and of slim build. He was said to be wearing a coat with hood up and trousers.

The second suspect has also been described as a white male, aged in 30s, but is said to be around 6ft tall and of medium build wearing navy blue top and jeans.

Investigating Officer, DC Gillian Harvey of Newport CID said:

“This was a despicable crime against a vulnerable person. Maybe you live in the area and were approached too?

“I would appeal to anyone who may have seen these two men in the area during that time, or have information about this crime to contact me on 101 quoting ref 44130476808.

“We are reminding local residents to ensure their properties are left secure at all times, and to remember you have the right to refuse entry to any uninvited visitors. Always ask for identification, and if you are still unsure you can call the police.”

Anyone with information can contact DC Harvey at Newport Police Station by phoning 101. Information can be given anonymously by phoning the Independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
