A body has been found in the water at Ventnor in the search for missing 69-year-old Jennifer Key.
As reported by Island Echo, an appeal for information was launched by Police at lunchtime today (Sunday) following the disappearance of Jennifer on Saturday night.
Police and Coastguard teams were deployed to the Ventnor area to search for the 69-year-old, who was last seen in the vicinity of Down Lane at around 22:30 on 17th August.
Sadly, at just before 14:00 this afternoon, it was reported to Police that a body had been spotted in the sea at the southern end of Ventnor Esplanade. Search teams were immediately tasked to the scene, including Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat.
Hampshire Constabulary have now confirmed the discovery of a woman’s body at Ventnor. Although formal identification is yet to take place, Jennifer’s family have been informed.
A spokesperson has said:
“Officers searching for missing Jennifer Key from Ventnor have located a woman’s body this afternoon (18 August).
“Formal identification procedures are ongoing, but Jennifer’s next of kin have been made aware of the discovery.
“At this stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner”.
