Binstead Primary School on the outskirts of Ryde has been rated as ‘good’ by Ofsted following their latest inspection earlier this month.
Her Majesty’s Inspectors have said that the school has provided consistently well above average results in national tests and that pupil’s make good progress overall, especially in reading. Pupils’ behaviour both in the classroom and out is good and they have great pride in their school and keep it litter free, tidy and calm. Pupils feel happy, relaxed and safe says the report.
However, the Hazlemere Avenue school had previously been rated as ‘outstanding’ and must address a number of issues to regain that status.
Mixed-age classes have been identified as a problem for the more-able pupils, marking in mathematics is said to not help pupils to move on or improve and middle managers do not have enough support to enable them to develop their subject area and monitor pupil’s progress so they can intervene quickly if problems arise.
The school is said to not always communicate well enough with parents and carers who have concerns about their children.
