UPDATED: Supermarket giant Asda will have their planning application for a new store in Newport heard by the Isle of Wight Council Planning Committee tonight (Wednesday).
A decision will be made at the meeting as to whether the new store can go ahead on a site next to Newport Football Club on St George’s Approach.
The meeting begins at 16:00 and will be held in the Council Chamber at County Hall in Newport. The meeting is public so residents can attend.
70 letters of objection have been received by the Isle of Wight Council, however the planning application has been recommended for conditional approval. 67 letters have been received in support of the Asda development.
Nearby Morrisons supermarket have stated an objection.
A spokesperson for Asda has said:
“We know that there is huge support on the Island for our store and we would like to invite residents to attend the meeting if they are able. It is always helpful for Planning Committees to see members of the public attending meetings in support of projects”.
