The sun shone down across the Island on Saturday as the first Ryde Mardi Gras parade got underway through the streets of Ryde, with an alternative route to the traditional carnival procession.
Thousands of spectators took to the streets as the New Orleans themed carnival, formally known as the Ryde Arts Parade, set off from Ryde School, down through the High Street and to a spectacular finish at Ryde Esplanade.
Rex, the King of Carnival, took pride of place riding the fattened bull, leading around 700 performers in vibrant costume as the history of Art was celebrated in style.
The event, organised by The New Carnival Company, took center stage as part of the annual Ryde Arts Festival.
