Wightlink’s flagship vessel, St Clare is getting a new look for summer 2014.
The ferry, which sails on the Portsmouth to Fishbourne route, is undergoing £200,000 of refurbishments with specialist marine company BluMarine this month. It will mean spacious and luxurious accommodation on deck 5 with comfortable new chairs and sofas with great views. Lighting will be improved to save energy and create a relaxing environment and there will be better access to the outside decks for disabled customers who use wheelchairs.
In addition, an onboard Business Centre will include tables where commuters and other business people can work easily, equipped with charging points for mobile phones and laptops. There will also be more charging points near the popular Costa coffee shop.
Wightlink’s Operations Director, Elwyn Dop said:
“We are sure our customers will appreciate the increased luxury on board St Clare.
“This investment is good news for commuters, regular passengers and holidaymakers alike as they travel across the Solent in style.”
Ross Welham, Design Director of BluMarine adds:
“We are excited to be working with Wightlink on creating a luxurious modern environment. It will be cosy on chilly winter crossings but fresh for hot summer days, with unrivalled views of the Solent from every seat.”
St Clare will be taken out of service between 6th-8th May for the bulk of the preparation work to be completed, with the fit-out being completed over the following two weeks when she returns to the route. The timetable will not be effected.
During these works, the vessel will be a no smoking ship as access to the outside deck and deck 5 will be limited. Costa Coffee will still be available through the ‘Proud to Serve’ facility on deck 4. It is recommend dogs are kept in cars throughout the journey during the works as there will be no facilities for them on the outside decks.
